A Florida resident is accused of defrauding a Wells Fargo customer of $20,000 by impersonating a bank official.
Kevon Christopher-Ky’Marley Shaw is accused of repeatedly calling the victim in September 2025 and identifying himself as “Steven Fenton” from Wells Fargo’s fraud division. Reports Tamarac Talk.
Police said Shaw provided the victim’s correct account information and convinced him his bank funds could be stolen.
The 23-year-old allegedly told the victim that in order to protect his money in the account, he needed to withdraw $20,000 in cash and then hand the cash over to a courier. The victim withdrew the $20,000 from a Wells Fargo branch on North Dixie Highway in Fort Lauderdale and delivered it to the courier who arrived at his home.
Shaw allegedly tried to steal more money from the victim, calling him dozens of times over several days. When the victim became suspicious, he contacted law enforcement, who began an investigation.
Investigators launch an operation to catch the fraudster. They had the victim arrange for another cash handover and monitored the incident.
Using subpoenas and digital records, including Uber transaction data, phone numbers and financial account activity, investigators allegedly linked the scheme to Shaw, who was arrested on March 27.
He is free on bail after posting $30,000 bail.
