Virginia is joining the effort to bypass the Electoral College

“Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed a bill on Monday adding the state to the National Popular Vote Compact, an agreement between states to award their presidential electoral votes to the winner of the statewide popular vote.” NPR Reports.

“With the addition of Virginia, the total number of states that have joined the interstate compact is now 18, plus the District of Columbia, for a total of 222 electoral votes.”

“However, the compact will not go into effect until enough states have signed on to reach the required 270 electoral votes to elect a president.”
